I'm trying to type in and run the first application featured in the book "Building Android Apps" and the aistarter
front end or software that is supposed to be running on my computer is newer than the book and instructions. I think I might have managed to get the app written but it won't run. It complains about no communication from the computer i'm using.... waiting to read blocks it is saying and not able to...
the app could be coded incorrectly for all I know but at this point I'm not sure of anything...
any help would be appreciated. This is not my first programming language. I'm fluent in many languages but not any that I can create a mobile application with but only my first time trying this one out and it seems pretty straight forward and I'm very excited to have gotten this far with it... this is in plain english and I like it...
I looked on your website for a backup zip of the files used to create the first project as the book had suggested I look for but i could no find that so I'm not sure where I stand...
a little help needed here.... I'm ready to start writing code even though this is click and go....
I forgot to mention that I’m using the software emulator and not an actual android phone.
The emulator comes up fine but cannot read from the program I created which is running on my computer…
So I don’t know if I created the program or app correctly…

well, I've gone thru the process of building the app and I'm ready to run it using the built in emulator which seems to come up just fine except that it has a problem reading my blocks it saids and ends with a blank phone screen...
I'm using the Ai2 program or software and trying to duplicate my way thru since the instructions don't match the Ai2 program I'm using....so I think I've got the app built right but dunno since I can't get it to run on the emulator or phone screen....
I tempted to try one of the apps..hello pur, etc... but i'm close to getting this one working
I want to start coding in this so it's worth my time and effort..
This is the App inventor 1 and I really want to get this working as opposed to getting my money back.... money can't buy the experience this book has given me....
I'm looking forward to writing code....
It's hard to debug what we can't see.
What you are doing is painful and unnecessary. Virtually all the classic apps (AI1) are reproduced in the online book described below. The classic Blocks are no longer available.
If you are stubborn and determined, then use the advice in these posts from the old forum to convert your AI1 blocks to Ai2 equivalent blocks manually:

Here are some resources to help you learn to use the AI2 tools. A very good way to learn App Inventor is to read the free Inventor's Manual here in the AI2 free online eBook http://www.appinventor.org/book2 ... the links are at the bottom of the Web page. The book 'teaches' users how to program with AI2 blocks.

I figured it out…. The emulator didn’t work on any of my computers.
I then tried the companion app on my iPhone and it worked like a charm. I’ve been busy reading and coding finally…
If only coding apps for iOS was this easy…
